People v E.M.

Child molestation charges dismissed

An elderly man suddenly learned he was being charged with molesting a child 22 years earlier. He faced a long prison sentence and lifetime registration as sex-offender so he called Lawrence & Peck.

After a thorough investigation of the facts and extensive research we determined that the authorities had waited too long to charge the client and had violated his right to a speedy trial. We filed extensive legal briefs and made aggressive arguments and the court finally agreed that a constitutional violation had occurred.  The case was dismissed and our client was able to resume his normal life without the stress of a trial or the stigma of sex-registration.

Verdict: Case Dismissed
